Why it matters
Engagement rate only means something against a benchmark. The platform average gives you one; your own posting history, which this page cannot see, gives you a better one.

Beyond one number
Connect LinkedIn and the Performance Analyzer benchmarks every post against your own average, names the hooks and formats that earn the engagement, and the next draft starts from what worked. Your full posting history, not a sample.
Engagement rate is interactions divided by impressions. The calculator counts the interactions everyone can see: reactions, comments, and reposts. LinkedIn's own analytics adds clicks on top, which is why the in-app number often reads higher than any benchmark you compare it to. Neither is wrong; they measure different things. The visible-interactions formula is the one worth quoting, because it is the only one that can be compared across accounts.
One number deserves more respect than the others in that sum. Comments are the expensive interaction: a reaction costs a reader half a second, a comment costs them a thought, and the feed treats the difference accordingly. Two posts with the same rate are not equal if one earned it in conversation.
Against the platform, the 2026 average sits around 5.2%, and format moves it: carousels lead at about 6.6% and video at 5.9%, while text-only posts average 3.95%. A B2B post clearing 5% with a specific audience of buyers is doing more commercial work than a broad post clearing 8% with an audience of peers.
Against yourself, the reading is simpler and more useful. Your own average is the honest baseline, and the posts that beat it are telling you something about hook, format, or topic that no platform average can. Check one post here; the pattern across months of posts is the part worth acting on, and the part this page cannot see.
The definition, and how the algorithm weighs each interaction, is in our glossary entry on engagement rate.
